Christina Hu’s Cornerstore Tarot series imagines what tarot might look like if your neighborhood bodega were the portal to the universe. The Lovers curl up not in a meadow or beneath the moon, but inside a cozy sardine can on a bodega shelf. The can becomes a tiny metal bed, and the rolled-back lid drapes over them like a silver blanket. Surrounded by a repeating grid of brightly labeled tins, this intimate little scene feels both tender and hilarious—love found in the most ordinary of places.
There’s something surprisingly sweet about it: two figures tucked together in a cramped can, making a home wherever they can find it. It’s a reminder that connection doesn’t always arrive with grandeur; sometimes it shows up between the aisles, wrapped in a moment of warmth amid everyday chaos. Here, love is small, scrappy, and beautifully resourceful—just like a good cornerstore romance.
