A raw and tender glimpse into vulnerability, It Broke is an original 9" x 12" mixed media piece by Oak Cliff-based artist Taro Waggoner, known under the moniker Fantasy Boy Taro. Using bold black lines and delicate watercolor shading, Waggoner captures the moment of emotional collapse through a simple yet arresting image: a drooping flower clenched in a cartoonish hand, thorns intact, petals darkened.
Equal parts heartbreak and humor, the piece merges sincerity with the surreal—an ongoing thread in Waggoner’s work. His familiar style is present: playful, a little offbeat, and always sincere. The handwritten title at the bottom reads like a soft-spoken confession, lending the image a quiet punch.
