About

Vynsie, Jully, and Derek behind the counter at We Are 1976

We Are 1976 is a family-owned shop in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff, Dallas. We showcase independent artists and design-focused goods, cards, prints, stationery, and ceramics curated for creativity, independent thinking, and genuineness.

Vynsie and Jully started the first concept in 2008. Derek joined in 2009. The three of us were in career transitions and wanted to build something genuine and lasting together.

Our backgrounds couldn't be more distinct. Vynsie is a graphic designer trained in London. Jully’s foundation is in psychology, and she worked as a Montessori teacher. Derek spent over ten years at Starbucks. Each of us contributed unique skills and perspectives; together they form the core of We Are 1976.

The three founders in the early days of We Are 1976

At the time, Dallas was known as corporate. Everyone in Texas felt Austin was the only place creatives could break out. We saw an opportunity to build a place in Dallas where independent makers could show their work, inspire, and think on their own terms.

Our curation has evolved over the years, but the principle hasn't. Jully and Vynsie traveled to find inspiration in California, on the East Coast, in Asia, and in Austin. We'd come back, struck by how much of what we saw didn't exist in North Texas. Renegade Craft Fair introduced us to artists without a dedicated place to show their work. Flatstock at SXSW brought together printmakers we never would have met otherwise. Stationery shows did the same for that world. Those in-person relationships still shape what we carry today.

We moved the shop to Bishop Arts in 2011. It's a walkable neighborhood full of local independent businesses, with every shop, cafe, and bakery run by people pouring real passion into their work. It's been an honor to anchor here.

The print gallery wall at We Are 1976 in Bishop Arts, Dallas

When you walk in, our print gallery wall is the first thing you see. It's where we celebrate the artists who make up the We Are 1976 family. Everything in the shop carries a story, the maker's and eventually yours.

We've been at this since 2009. We've shipped work from artists in our backyard and across the world, and we're grateful for the community of makers, customers, team, and neighbors who've made it possible.

Come visit or browse online. Either way, welcome.
