Porcelain Leaf Shaped Plate | Midori Kannyu

Japanese cooks pay a lot of attention to the season on the plate, and leaf-shaped dishes are a classic way to do it. A small plate shaped like a leaf can make a few slices of fruit or some pickles look like they were picked that morning.

This one has softly scalloped edges, a cupped center and raised vein lines, all under a green kannyu glaze with a fine crackle and a darker, warm rim. It's 8 inches long, a nice size for dessert, a couple of dumplings or tea-time snacks.
