Hatch Show Print, a working letterpress print shop since 1879, uses its vast collection of vintage type and hand-carved imagery to create timeless designs that express and commemorate America's evolving cultural identity.
Part of a series of half-sheet animal designs, this Barnyard Chicken Print is a historic restrike, or reprint, of the original wood block designed in the 1930s by Dallas artist Clyde Clack, initially as a means of teaching the craft of woodcarving to Depression-era technical school students. The designs became favorites, and recently, many of the original hand-carved wood blocks—some of which hadn't been printed in decades—were returned to Hatch Show Print.
