Inspired by a childhood visit to the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague Castle, Beauty and the Beast captures the awe and imagination of first encounters with grand, gothic architecture. Malti remembers the skies being heavy with clouds and the cool air wrapping around her as she wandered through the castle complex and approached the towering spires of the cathedral. To her young eyes, it felt like stepping into a story — where the cathedral stood as the looming Beast, and the light and flowers she’s now painted in represent the Beauty.
With its ornate structure rendered in delicate linework and bathed in deep sapphire blues, the piece balances contrast and harmony — gothic arches set against golden, wind-swept blooms. It’s a moment frozen in time, viewed now through the lens of memory and artistic reinterpretation.
