With Courtyards of Crescent and Cross, Malti reflects on the sacred beauty of the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba — a structure layered with centuries of cultural transformation. As she wandered through its iconic horseshoe arches and sunlight-filled halls, she was struck by the merging of Islamic and Christian design, a powerful symbol of human adaptability and shared reverence.
Lush purple coneflowers bloom at the base of the arches, softening the intricate geometry of the architecture with natural elegance. The vibrant greens and hints of lavender and coral imbue the scene with warmth and a sense of timeless serenity. This piece is not only a tribute to Córdoba’s unique architectural legacy, but also a gentle meditation on unity, resilience, and the stories that endure across belief systems.
