Desperately Seeking Basquiat | Ian Castello-Cortes (Gingko Press)

Before the record auction prices, there was a kid from Brooklyn with a notebook full of crowns. This compact biography follows Jean-Michel Basquiat through the places that shaped him: his Brooklyn neighborhood, time in Puerto Rico, the downtown scene where SAMO© first appeared on the walls, and the orbit of Warhol, Madonna and Versace.

Photographs and quotes bring the story close, making it an easy, absorbing read for longtime fans and anyone meeting Basquiat for the first time.
