Language of Flowers 15 (Pink, Red and Blue) Art Print | Esther Chow (HK)

Pale blue ground with a faint beige damask pattern printed under everything, and scattered across it: deep red roses, loose red tulip petals, pink azaleas, a cluster of blue hydrangea in the top corner. The flowers sit on the surface like they have been laid down and photographed from above. The pattern beneath keeps asserting itself, which is the tension the whole picture runs on.

This print comes from Language of Flowers, a series of oil paintings in which Esther Chow works close in on cut blooms and the patterned surfaces behind them until it is hard to say which one is the subject. The series is looser and louder than her landscape work, and colour carries most of it.

Printed by the artist in Hong Kong on Hahnemühle fine art paper, hand numbered and signed in pencil from an edition of 20. The sheet has a natural deckle edge on all four sides, so dimensions vary slightly from print to print.
