A plate of pad thai photographed from directly above and painted with everything in focus: prawns, bean sprouts, tofu, chives, a wedge of lime, two whole green onions laid across the top. The plate is blue-and-white Thai enamelware and it sits on a deep red ground that pushes all the warmth in the noodles forward. This is the most photorealistic thing Chow does, and the most patient.
This print comes from Esther Chow's food paintings, the body of work she is best known for, in which a single dish is painted straight on and larger than life, with the attention usually reserved for a portrait.
Printed by the artist in Hong Kong on Hahnemühle fine art paper, hand numbered and signed in pencil from an edition of 50. Available in two sizes.
