Rhodochrosite, the rose-to-blood-red manganese mineral prized by collectors, painted as a cluster of glassy crimson points rising from a dark base. Light catches every plane, running from deep garnet shadows to bright, almost glowing reds against a pale blush ground. It's a portrait of a mineral at full saturation, from Oklahoma City oil painter Trisha Thompson Adams.
