Saint Tex Linocut Print | Jack Russell (TX)

Big Tex, canonized. The State Fair of Texas’s 55-foot cowboy stands with a golden halo over his hat and a small flame resting in his outstretched palm, the Texas Star Ferris wheel and Fair Park crowds spread out behind him. The flame is a nod to 2012, when the original Big Tex caught fire and Texans mourned him like a relative.

Jack Russell carves Big Tex the way old folk painters carved saints: a little stiff, completely sincere. A must for anyone who measures autumn in corny dogs and Fletcher’s.
