Inspired by the regal history of Gyeongbokgung Palace — built in 1395 as the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty — Symbols of Seoul pays tribute to Korea’s enduring cultural identity. In this piece, Malti layers bold royal blues with delicate architectural linework to capture the grace and grandeur of the palace. Bright orange blooms, modeled after Korea’s national flower (the Rose of Sharon), rise from the base of the composition, infusing the piece with both energy and symbolism.
This contrast between the architectural and the organic, the historical and the contemporary, is a hallmark of Malti’s style. In Symbols of Seoul, the iconic curves of the palace rooftops meet the soft movement of florals, creating a visual love letter to one of Seoul’s most treasured landmarks.
