Akashiya's Sai ThinLine is one of the finest-pointed brush pens made. Each tip is shaped by hand from springy synthetic fibers and comes to a point sharp enough for hairline detail, then swells into a broad stroke when you lean into it. One pen can move between small lettering and loose sketching without switching tools.
The ink is a water-based pigment in muted traditional Japanese colors. Once it dries it won't run or fade, which is why painters reach for these to outline a drawing before laying watercolor over it.
